# Group of Four

## About Group of Four

Group of Four is a free daily word puzzle where sixteen words hide four secret groups of four. Your task is to work out which words belong together and sort them into their categories. The twist is that many words look like they could fit more than one group, so you have to spot the connection the puzzle intends. One new puzzle is set each day and plays in your browser with no account or download.

## How to play

1. Read the sixteen words in the grid.
2. Find four words that share a hidden connection and select them as a group.
3. Submit a group to see if you are correct — you have a limited number of mistakes.
4. Sort all sixteen words into their four groups to solve the puzzle.

## What it trains

Group of Four is a superb test of lateral thinking and verbal reasoning. Resisting the obvious grouping and finding the subtler link trains cognitive flexibility — the ability to see a problem from more than one angle. It also builds vocabulary and the habit of questioning your first assumption, which is valuable in exams and everyday problem-solving.

### Solving tips

- Look for the "trap" words that seem to fit two groups — set them aside until last.
- Start with the group you are most certain about to reduce the options.
- Think beyond meaning: groups can be based on wordplay, prefixes or hidden themes.
- If two groups overlap, decide which link is stronger and more specific.
