About this Sudoku puzzle
Sudoku is a logic puzzle played on a 9×9 grid divided into nine 3×3 boxes. A few digits are filled in to start you off, and your goal is to complete the grid so that every row, every column and every 3×3 box contains the digits 1 to 9 exactly once. There is no arithmetic involved — Sudoku is pure deduction.
How to play
- Choose an empty cell and work out which digit can legally go in it.
- A digit cannot repeat within the same row, the same column or the same 3×3 box.
- Begin with the rows, columns and boxes that already contain the most numbers — they are the easiest to finish.
- Use pencil marks to note the candidate digits for a cell when you are not yet certain.
Tips & strategy
- Naked singles: if only one digit can possibly fit a cell, place it.
- Hidden singles: sometimes a digit can only go in one position within a row, column or box, even when the cell could in theory take others.
- Eliminate as you go: every number you place narrows the options for its neighbours and often unlocks the next move.
- Never guess: each puzzle has a single solution reachable by logic, so re-scan the grid instead of guessing.
